Communication Challenges in Incident Response Situations: A Department of Defense Perspective
During Hurricane Katrina, USNORTHCOM coordinated the active-duty public affairs efforts for the largest military deployment and humanitarian mission that the United States had seen since the Civil War. Michael Perini, ABC, Director of Public Affairs, Headquarters North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). Mr. Perini advises and supports the NORAD and USNORTHCOM commander. In addition, he makes timely and accurate information available so the public, government leaders and the news media may understand NORAD’s aerospace warning and aerospace defense missions and USNORTHCOM’s homeland defense and defense support of civil authorities missions.
Mr. Perini served more than 30 years in the Air Force before retiring in the rank of colonel in 2002.
